QUEENSBURY AND WINTERHAVEN FLA.

Brenda A. Mercure, 62, passed away at home Wednesday August 14, 2013 surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born July 30, 1951, in Jarratt, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert R. Hand and Vivian B. Hedgepeth .

She married Alan E. Mercure on April 13, 1980, in Queensbury N.Y.

Brenda worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She started her nursing career working at the Fort Hudson Nursing Facility in Fort Edward, and ended up working at many other nursing homes and doctor offices.

She enjoyed wintering in FLA. , traveling to warm tropical places with her husband, spending the summers in the Adirondacks, and of course her Siamese cat Felix which had recently passed.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years Alan Mercure of, her daughter Stephanie Amos and husband Kurt Amos of Delray Beach Fla., step-daughter Heather Mercure of Lake Worth Fla. , step-son Jeffrey Mercure of West Fort Ann, sister Beverly Tweed of Weldon, NC., brothers David Hand and wife Nancy, and Robert Hand and wife Amy of Weldon NC. , sister Rhonda Waters and husband Michael of Redding Cal., granddaughter Harli Amos of Delray Beach Fla., grandson Peyton Amos of Delray Beach Fla., sister-in-law, Janet Kurtz of Ocoee Fla. and niece Patty Gibson of Navarre Fla. who were her caregivers in her final days, eight nephews, three nieces, four great nephews, three great nieces and family friends Joey and Jen Mabb of Hudson Falls, N.Y.

A memorial service will follow calling hours at the funeral at 4p.m. with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, Fort Edward, officiating.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Donations may be made in Brenda’s memory to High Peaks Hospice at 79 Glenwood Ave. (Second Floor) Queensbury, NY 12804 or to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at C.R. Wood Cancer c/o Glens Falls Hospital Foundation located at 126 South Street Glens Falls, NY 12801.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff on Tower 2, floor 2 at C.R. Wood Cancer Center. Thank you for your care and compassion during Brenda’s recent stay at Glens Falls Hospital. She thought you were all wonderful. To the staff of the High Peaks Hospice and all who came to our home to make her last days comfortable and at peace; especially Tabitha, Kelly, Carol, you were absolutely terrific.
