Obituary for Rita Jane Lynch (Murphy)

Rita Jane Lynch (Murphy)
Glens Falls
Rita Murphy Lynch, 88 years old, passed away on December 7, 2014 at the Pines of Glens Falls.
Rita was born in Glens Falls to Jeremiah and Melvina (Prince) Murphy on May 10, 1926.
She was a graduate of St. Alphonsus School and St. Mary's Academy, class of 1944, as well as being a lifelong communicant of St. Alphonsus and St. Mary's Parishes. After graduation, Rita was employed by the 1st National Bank of Glens Falls. Rita married J. Roger Lynch of Glens Falls, her St. Mary's classmate, in 1948. Rita subsequently worked at several pharmacies in Glens Falls over the years.
She lived in Glens Falls her entire life, anchoring the family home there for over 50 years. Rita enjoyed swimming, camping, and vacationing at Hampton Beach with her family. She was a lifelong supporter of special education and helped initiate several local programs including a special Girl Scout Troop, a summer day camp, a local chapter of ARC, and the Glens Falls Community Workshop. Rita had a love of music that was passed on to all her children. As a young girl she learned to play the Hawaiian guitar and it's strains and her singing were early memories for her children. Records from the 40's through the 60's, played on a small portable record player, were the background music of her child rearing years. After her children were grown Rita became an avid hockey fan, attending Adirondack Red Wings games faithfully and then following later teams as well. She made wonderful fudge at Christmas time which was much loved by family and friends.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her sisters Alice Murphy, Alvina Harrington, Mary Coffey, and her brothers Robert Murphy and Edward J. Murphy.
Rita is survived by her husband Roger, her sons Daniel (Ellen) of Etna, NH, and Jeffrey (Nancy) of Queensbury, her daughter Kathleen of Glens Falls to whom she was especially devoted for the better part of her life, and her four grandchildren: Rev. Reginald Lynch, O.P. of Columbus, Ohio, Maureen Lynch of Patchogue, NY, Jacob Lynch (Liz) of Latham, NY, and Patrick Lynch of Glens Falls. Rita is survived by several nieces and nephews as well: Ann Harrington of Sheldonville, MA, Susan Burgess of Fairbanks, AK, Marianne Murphy of Schenectady, NY, Grace Murphy of Lexington, MA, Edward Murphy of Glens Falls, NY, and Robert Murphy of Kissimmee, FL. Rita is survived by her brother-in-law Robert Lynch of FL and his children Brian Lynch of FL and Pam Thomas of Lake Luzerne, NY.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Pines and Rita's relatives and friends for their care, attention, and support during this difficult time.
