SOUTH GLENS FALLS

Catherine M. Amell, 84, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 26, 1930 in Glens Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Michael Sr. and Ethel (Ward) Spellacy.

Cathy graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls, and continued attending monthly lunches with the St. Mary’s girls for years to come.

On October 4, 1956 she married Don J. Amell Sr. at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls, and they raised their family together for 32 years until his death in 1988.

Cathy was employed by Kreesge’s, Lerner’s Dress Shop and The Queen Shop, all of Glens Falls. She finished out her career at the Joy Dept. Store in South Glens Falls where she worked for 22 years until the day it closed.

Cathy was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church of South Glens Falls. She was member of the Alter Rosary Society where she was a past co-president. She was also active on the Bereavement Committee. She also participated on the Bingo and Blood Mobile Committees.

Cathy traveled to Florida for the winter. She enjoyed walking with her special walking partner Anne Arnold, and loved telling jokes. Most of all, Cathy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Cathy is predeceased by her son Darryl Amell and his wife Debbie, her grandson, SSGT Jesse Amell, and her brothers; Thomas and Michael Spellacy.

Left to cherish her memory are her companion George Lemery, her children; Don Amell Jr. and his wife Donna of Argyle, Donna Gundersen and her husband Chris of Wilton, her daughter Doreen Kirk and her husband Tony of South Glens Falls, her grandchildren; Jason Amell, Kristen and Hayley Gundersen, Brandon Amell, and Dustin and Travis Kirk, her twin sister Dorothy Latham and her husband Milton, her brother Ralph Spellacy,as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Rite of Committal will be conducted 1 pm on Friday May 1, 2015 in St. Mary's cemetery, 255 Main St. South Glens Falls. NY 12803.
