Sue Ellen Chapman, 70, of Feeder Dam Rd. South Glens Falls, passed away at home on April 12, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 2, 1944, in Glens Falls NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Viola (Gordon) Hodges.

Sue attended high school and Hudson Falls Central School, as part of the 1963 class. She then received an education from A.C.C. in Queensbury NY, as well as the Hudson Falls NY BOCES.

On November 18, 1967, Sue married the love of her life, the late, Phillip Chapman, in Watertown NY.

Sue Chapman was a pillar of faith and longtime member of the Fortsville United Methodist Church in Gansevoort NY. It is here where she was a financial secretary, chairman of the worship committee, and a member of the U.M.W. She was also active in planning and preparing church events such as barbeques, as well baking delicious apple pies for church gatherings. Sue loved spending time at church where she made many friends and left a lasting impression on the people she encountered there. She was also a member of the Fort Edward Arts Center, as well as the Head Start program.

She enjoyed listening to music, painting, gardening and traveling. She also loved bowling and was a member of the Pioneer Bowleretts, as well as the Town and Country Bowlers. Her favorite activities were church gatherings, in which she took great pleasure.

Besides her parents and husband, Sue is predeceased by her infant sister, Edna Mae, her brother in law, Ernie Hilpertshauser and her nephew, Tim Bush.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Nancy Powers of South Glens Falls; her brother, Robert Hodges and his wife Gail, of South Glens Falls; her sister in law, Joan Hilpertshauser, of Fort Edward; her son, Scott P. Chapman, of South Glens Falls; her nieces, Liza Bush, of Glens Falls and Susan Johnson; her nephews, John Hodges, of North Carolina and Duff Hilpertshauser, of South Glens Falls.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on Thursday April 16, 2015 at 11am at the Fortsville United Methodist Church, Fortsville Rd. Gansevoort, NY 12831, with the Rev. Paul Dufford, pastor, officiating

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
