Robert G. Putnam, 94, of South Glens Falls, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at The Stanton Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born October 10, 1920, in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was the son of the
late Robert and Mabel (Senecal) Putnam.

Robert proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II
from 1940 - 1945. At the time of his honorable discharge he had achieved
the rank of Sergeant first class.

On September 14, 1940, he married Margaret Clingen at St. Peter’s Church
in Saratoga Springs, NY. They were married 74 wonderful years. They raised
two daughters, Patricia Gail (Putnam) Martinez and Bonita Ann (Putnam) O‘Leary.

Robert was employed as a salesman for Air Land Motor Parts in Glens Falls, NY
until his retirement in 1972.

In his younger years he loved hunting small game, ice fishing and golf. Upon his retirement, he and his wife Margaret cruised the Mediterranean on The Love Boat.
They traveled extensively to Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Martha’s Vineyard and several of the western states. They also enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida and Alabama. Robert was an avid reader and loved to spend time
with his family. Both Robert and Margaret especially cherished going to their grandson Michael O’Leary’s house for cook outs, Sunday dinners, birthdays and holidays. Michael’s wife Stacey always cooked wonderful meals for them. Robert was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in South Glens Falls, where he was a very active member, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years.

Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his older half-sister Ethel (Putnam) Dineen of Florida and his younger sister Ada Catherine Putnam who died at the age of 4.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 74 years, Margaret Putnam, two daughters, Patricia Gail Martinez of Washington, DC, Bonita Ann O’Leary and her husband Timothy of Hudson Falls, NY, two grandchildren, Dr. Michael J. O’Leary and his wife Stacey of Queensbury, NY, Raquel Martinez and her husband Javier Rodriguez of San Juan, PR, five great grandchildren, Keeghan O’Leary and Devin O’Leary of Queensbury, NY, Javier Andres Rodriguez, Ana Victoria Rodriguez, and Julianna Raquel Rodriguez of San Juan, PR.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1p.m. on Monday May 4, 2015 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Ave., South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Martin Fisher, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be conducted at 2pm on Tuesday May 5, 2015 and St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

The family would also like to express a special thank you to, Susan Simione and Robert and Margaret’s close friend Elaine Jones of South Glens Falls, NY for all of their kindness and help during their time of need.
