Obituary for Ruth Louise Smith (Fish)
South Glens Falls
Ruth Louise Fish Smith, nearly 93, a lifelong resident of South Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2015.
She is survived by her son, Arthur R. Smith, and wife, Kelly, also of South Glens Falls and daughter, Lourie Smith Pohl, and husband Macario of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Jillian, Joshua, Avani, Orion and Jericho Smith; sister Ardine Fish Southwick; nieces Jennifer Ward, Suzanne Getman, Dianne Shapiro, Elaine Stark and Nancy Lewis; nephews Thomas Ward, Timothy Ward, Jonathan Ward, Marc Vadnais and Brian Vadnais; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Arthur M. Smith; her parents, Theodore and Hazel Durrin Fish; and very recently her sister, Trudy Ward.
She was a very beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin and friend.
Ruth was born, grew up, went to school and lived in South Glens Falls area all of her life. She graduated from the high school on Hudson Street in the class of 1941. During WWII she worked at the GE, where she met her dearest and lifelong friend, Jean Santoro, of Hudson Falls. She was a medical secretary and bookkeeper for Drs. David Clarke and Allan Kauffman and for Day Spring Counseling Service. Ruth cared about her community and ran for village councilor in the 1970s. She had many relationships with the people of South Glens Falls and never left her home without meeting an old friend or acquaintance.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Adirondack Friends Meeting, 27 Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls, NY on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11 AM. Please come and share your memories of Ruth.
