Moreau
Doris Andrejkovics, 78, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2015 at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Doris was born on September 18, 1936, in New York City to the late, Paul and Margaret (Fuzia) Andrejkovics. She spent her early years in the Bronx, until the family moved in 1947 to a small farm in Kingsbury.

She attended grade school at St. Mary’s in Hudson Falls. She graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1954, among the top five in her class. After graduation she worked for General Electric in Hudson Falls. Later, Doris moved to California to work and further her education via Santa Monica City College. Then after a visit to Hawaii, she decided to make that paradise her new home.

Because she thought this area was truly “God’s Country”, she returned to Hudson Falls in 1974. She worked at Gaslight Village in Lake George, as a book keeper for Barber’s Markets, and eventually retired from Glens Falls Hospital after 16 years of service in the Medical Records Department.

Doris was a fun loving person who enjoyed making people laugh and have a good time. Her smile and laugh were contagious and her shenanigans were plentiful. She was an adventurous person who loved to travel. She always said her suitcase was packed and ready to go. Besides the places she lived, she enjoyed touring the world whether by land, sea, or air. Some of the places she visited were, the Holy Land, Egypt, the Greek Isles, Portugal, Spain, Algeria, France, Hong Kong, Thailand, Great Britain, India, Turkey, Italy, Japan, the Canadian Rockies, and she traveled across the United States more than once. Her passports were full of adventures. One of her most memorable trips was traveling to Eastern Europe with her brother, Paul, and visiting their father’s birthplace in Slovakia.

Besides traveling, Doris loved volunteering her time and living life to the fullest. After retirement, she kept busy volunteering in Saratoga and Warren Counties delivering Meals on Wheels and was a member of RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). She ushered at both SPAC and the Adirondack Theatre Festival during the summers. She was a member of the Fort Hudson Auxiliary, a volunteer at the Moreau Community Center and sang with the Moreau Seniors’ “Fun Band”. She was also a member of the Hudson River Dollies, Red Hats.

Doris was a communicant of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Glens Falls. She at one time served on the Parish Counsel and was the past president of the Alter Rosary Society. She went through the “Formation for Ministry” program and started the Christian Service Committee at St. Michael’s, visiting fellow parishioner patients at the hospital, bringing the Eucharist to the home bound, and with other members of the parish helped provide bereavement services and worked serving meals at the Open Door Soup Kitchen and Salvation Army.

Doris loved being with her family and friends. They were such an important part of her life.

Besides her parents, Doris is predeceased by her brother, Paul Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are sister in law, Jackie Andrejkovics of Hudson Falls; her niece/goddaughter, Lynn Andrejkovics of Hudson Falls; her nephews, Paul (Rachel) Andrejkovics of New York City, John (Heidi) Andrejkovics of Hudson Falls and Mark Andrejkovics of Fort Edward; her great nephew, Benjamin and great niece, Greta Andrejkovics; as well as several cousins. She is also cherished by many traveling companions and special friends who were like family to her, including her neighbors, the Boucher Family (Jim, Shelly, Kelsey, Emily and Jason), who were always looking out for her.
