FORT EDWARD

Joseph P. Hearl, 66, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born March 31, 1949 in Long Island, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph P. Hearl Sr. and Caroline (Helf) Hearl-Ottman.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp where he successfully completed boot camp at Paris Island. He then went on the Camp LeJeune in NC for further training. He was a member of the 4th Lamb Battalion Hawk (Homing All Way Killer) missile unit in 29 Palms, CA, and was honorably discharged in 1969.

Upon returning home from the service, Joe was employed by General Electric in Fort Edward and Hudson Falls for 25 years as a machinist (tool and die maker).

Joe was a member of the Elks Club Chapter 2680 in Fort Edward, and served as Chaplain. He transferred to the Glens Falls Elks Chapter 81, and was named Elk of the Year for 1988-1989. He was also a member of the Hudson Falls American Legion Post 574.

Joseph was a Communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.

Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He loved to work in his vegetable garden and enjoyed his excellent neighbors, Jim and Mary Doty and their family. Most of all, Joe loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his daughter Jody Hearl Almy, his sister Caroline Hearl Zuschlag, his father-in-law, Frederick Fish and his wife Helen, Frederick’s second wife Jean Fish, and his brother-in-law Charlie W. Zuschlag.

Left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, his wife of 13 years, Hollie Carol (Fish) Leonard-Hearl, his children; Brian Hearl of Virginia, Scott Hearl of Virginia, his step-daughter Christine Arnold and her husband John of Fort Edward, his grandchildren; Cameron and Cody Almy of Virginia, Jordon and Madison Hearl LeMaster of Virginia, and Grace and Russell Arnold of Fort Edward, his brother Steven Hearl and his wife Lori of Florida, his Uncle Bob and Aunt Louise Johnson of Virginia, his sisters-in law; Susan Ruby and her husband Joseph, Helen Hathaway, Sally Fish and her partner Marshall Zeh, Carol Tripp and her husband David, and Mary Fish and her friend Alice Hand, as well as his brothers-in-law Robert Fish and his wife Barbara, Lonson Fish and his wife Bonnie, John Fish and his wife Monica, and Jerry Hathaway.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.

Rite of Committal will take place at 10am on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Hudson Falls.
