Obituary for William "Bill" Fitzgibbon

William "Bill" Fitzgibbon
South Glens Falls

William J. Fitzgibbon, 71, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015, as a result of an accident on the river that he loved.

Born September 21, 1943 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Daniel and Kathryn (Mornhinweg) Fitzgibbon.

On May 6, 1972, Bill married the love of his life, Christine Reynolds in Fayetteville, NY at the Immaculate Conception Church.

Bill started his career at Niagara Mohawk, which eventually changed to National Grid. He worked his way up in the company until his retirement as a supervisor in 2007.

Bill was a member and past president of the South Glens Falls Fire Department.

Bill loved being on the river, and spending time at his camp. He enjoyed buying and selling cars, his favorite being his limo. He was known for always getting a great deal on everything. He had a very charitable nature and was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. Bill could always be counted on to do the right thing. The most important thing of all to Bill was time spent with his family and he loved nothing more than doting on his grandsons who were his world.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his first wife Pauline (Kamburelis) Fitzgibbon, his mother and father-in-law, James and Ruth Reynolds, his brothers-in-law; John Dorvee, Jack Celeste, and David Centerbar.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 43 years, Christine Fitzgibbon, his children; Dennis Fitzgibbon, Elizabeth Austin and her husband William, and Jessica Fitzgibbon, his grandsons; Noah, Phineas, and Tobias Austin, his sisters; Rose Dorvee of South Glens Falls, Ann Celeste of South Glens Falls, Nancy Cooper and her husband Paul of FL, Margaret Centerbar of South Glens Falls, Mary Hathorn and her husband John of Atlanta, GA, his brother Daniel Fitzgibbon and his wife Debbie of South Glens Falls, his sister and brother-in-law Mary and Preston Jenkins of South Glens Falls, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, and his favorite Australian Shepherds Willie and Jimmie.
