Obituary for Elizabeth Evelyn Collette (Murray)

Elizabeth Evelyn Collette (Murray)
Hudson Falls

Elizabeth E. Collette, 93, entered into eternal peace surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 5, 2015.

Betty was born on July 31, 1921 in St. Albans, VT.

She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Westfield, MA.

Betty married Theodore H. Collette on June 29, 1940. Together they raised their six children. They were married for 38 years until his passing in 1978.

She founded Candy Apple Play School in Hudson Falls, NY, where she touched countless lives. Betty was known as Grandma Collette to many.

Besides her parents and her loving husband she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Deanna Winchell and daughter-in-law, Nan Collette.

Betty is survived by her six children; Maryann (Seth) Bunker, Ted (Barb) Collette Jr., Don Collette, Elaine (Dana) Winchell, Ken (Laura) Collette, and Tom (Jill) Collette, her grandchildren; Robin (Ken) Adams, Peter Bunker, Suzanne (John) Daniul, Kim (Xiaver) Foster, Bob (Karel), Debie Allen, Danielle (Eric) Canterbury, Tim Collette, Becky (Bill) Tackett, James Collette, Seth Collette, Laura (Marc) Connor, Jeni (Paul) Stockman, Katie Winchell, Michele (Dana) Hogan, Lynn (Judson) Zachar, Renee (Geoff) Ringler, Todd (Karen) Collette, and Eric Collette, 40 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Betty’s greatest love was God followed by her family. She had a loving and gentle spirit with a great sense of humor. All that knew her, knew the beautiful impact she had on this world. Betty was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always saying if you were one of hers then you were perfect. Betty was the center of the family and instilled many values in us. She was the glue that held the family together. Her famous saying was “Love one another.” Betty always wanted to know, “what good things were happening?”

Betty enjoyed doing many things, including sewing, playing cards, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family at camp and in Florida. She was never afraid to take a chance or to go on an adventure. Betty checked many things off of her bucket list. Some of her greatest achievements were traveling to the Holy Land, visiting the Vatican and seeing the Pope. Betty enjoyed making quilts for her family, and in her later years donated hundreds of children’s quilts and lap-robes to those in need.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jan Lapan for her care, upbeat personality, support, and most of all her friendship to Betty. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Miles and the staff of tower 6 for their compassion during this difficult time.

Friends may call from 5-7 on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway Fort Edward.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday July 9, 2015 at 9 am at the Church of St. Mary/St. Paul’s on the park, Hudson Falls 12839.

The Rite of Committal will follow the service at Pine View Cemetery, 21 Quaker Road, Queensbury, NY 12804.
