Obituary for Adella Konopka (Urbonowicz)

Adella Konopka (Urbonowicz)
Fort Edward
Adella Konopka, a longtime resident of Fort Edward, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at her home.

Born on May 23, 1922, Adella was the daughter of the late Joseph and Wladyslawa (Violet) Urbonowicz (Stankowska). She graduated from Argyle Central School in the class of 1940, the very first class to graduate from the newly constructed school facility.

On June 30, 1956 Adella married her husband, Joseph Konopka, in St. Joseph Church in Fort Edward. They devoted 23 years of their lives to each other before Joe’s passing in 1978.

Adella worked for and retired from the Fort Hudson Nursing Centre after serving many years as a supervisor in the laundry department.

During her lifetime, Adella was always most vigilant and attentive when it came to her family. She took great pleasure in raising her children, and then in later years watching them grow and mature into responsible, caring adults. She was a compassionate and loving mother devoted to their care and needs throughout her entire life.

Adella was a devout and faithful communicant of St. Joseph Church in Fort Edward for her entire life, and a participant in the church choir. She served as a Eucharist Minister and made it her personal responsibility to clean and care for the church linens and altar coverings. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters, Court Morrissey #1477, and a past Grand Regent.

When Adella wasn’t engaged with her family or her church, she would spend her time making American doll clothes. Over the years she accumulated a large collection of doll clothes and often gave them as gifts to her friends and family.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Adella was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Mabry; an infant sister, Catherine Urbonowicz; a brother, James Urbonowicz; and her sisters, Edith Kennedy, Helen Tidd, and Stella Salembier.

Survivors include her three children, Claire Konopka, Lawrence “Larry” Konopka, and the Reverend Thomas Konopka; her sisters, Rachael Williamson and Dorothy Porter; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, great, great nieces and great, great nephews, and cousins; as well as so many wonderful friends.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. The Catholic Daughters, Court Morrissey No. 1477, will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at St. Joseph Church in Fort Edward, with Adella’s son, Reverend Thomas Konopka, presiding.

Rite of Committal will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery immediately following Mass.
