Glens Falls
Alexander R. Torok, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 9, 1928 in Vienna, Austria he was the son of the late Leslie and Lilly (Barber) Torok.
He attended Victoria College in Alexandria and Cairo, Egypt, and the University of Montpellier in France. Alex later graduated from the Hotel Management School in Lausanne, Switzerland.
After Alex immigrated to the United States, he worked in several New York and Connecticut hotels until 1963. He then joined USCI as Director of International Sales and later became a Vice President.
Alex was married for 43 years to his beloved wife Phyllis.
He spoke many languages and loved classical music, reading, world travel, cooking and spending time with family. Prior to retiring and moving back to Glens Falls in 1994, Alex acted in many community theater productions.
Alex was past President of the Glens Falls Rotary Club and LARAC, past Treasurer of WACM, and Board Member of the Hyde Collection. He especially enjoyed serving as Artistic Director of the de Blasiis Chamber Music Series for nine years, working with Robert Rosoff at the Glens Falls Symphony to bring many talented musicians to Glens Falls.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Phyllis (Sullivan) Torok; his sons, Patrick and wife Deborah of Longmont, CO, Ian and wife Amy of Plano, TX, Norman and his wife Cheryl of Boston, MA, and Philip and wife Erin of Lexington, MA; his cousin, Susan Pollak of Memphis, TN; his grandchildren, Delia, Skylar, Matthew, Megan and Katherine; and great grandchildren, Raquel, Xander, and Ava

A celebration of Alexander’s life will follow at 12p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Cox, officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.
