Obituary for J. Roger Lynch

J. Roger Lynch
Glens Falls
J. Roger Lynch, 89 years old, passed away quietly at home, September 2, 2015. In attendance were his son Jeff and daughter-in-law Nancy.
Roger was born in Plattsburg, NY on April 21, 1926 to the late J. Mark Lynch and Anna (Kennedy) Lynch. The family relocated to Glens Falls when he was a child, retaining a treasure of stories about rural life in Palmer Hill and Keesville.
Roger attended St. Mary's Academy, graduating in 1944 where he enjoyed playing football, playing the saxophone and altar service. During his high school years he worked part-time at Finch Pruyn and St. Alphonsus Church.
Roger enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 immediately following high school. He volunteered for submarine service, serving in the Pacific, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Following the war he graduated from Albany Business College, married his high school sweetheart Rita Murphy in 1948, and began a lifelong career with the Glens Falls National Bank and Trust, retiring as a vice president.
Roger was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church serving as lector and usher. He also served in the local Jaycees and Lions Club.
Roger imparted his enthusiasm for outdoor activities to his children: ice skating, skiing, fishing, canoeing, camping. Roger talked of his boyhood adventures in winter on wooden skis with bicycle inner tubes for bindings, skiing up the old railroad tracks to the area of the Glens Falls Country Club for the day. He taught both his sons to ski at the country club in early 1960s. Roger loved to watch old black and white movies and passed that love on to his children and grandchildren. Roger also enjoyed building models and model railroading. He was an expert painter. He encouraged folk music in the family, allowing endless practice sessions in the house; and he regularly attended family sporting and musical events. He enjoyed family vacations at Hampton Beach, and maintained a life-long enthusiasm for Notre Dame Football.
Roger passed on his work ethic to his children: if you want something, get a job so you can afford to buy it. His daughter Kathleen certainly exhibits that to this day, having worked at CWI for over 40 years.
Besides Roger's parents, he was predeceased by his wife Rita Jane Lynch who passed on December 7, 2014.
Roger is survived by his brother Robert Lynch of North Fort Myers, FL, his sons Daniel (Ellen) of Etna, NH, and Jeffrey (Nancy) of Queensbury, his daughter Kathleen of Glens Falls; his four grandchildren: Fr. Reginald Lynch, OP of South Bend IN, Maureen Lynch (Dan Fingas) of Patchogue, NY, Jacob Lynch (Liz) of Latham, NY, Patrick Lynch of Glens Falls; and a great grandson Cary Lynch. Roger is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Brian Lynch of North Fort Myers, FL, Pam Thomas (Howard) of Lake Luzerne, NY, Ann Harrington of Sheldonville, MA, Susan Burgess (George) of Fairbanks, AK, Marianne Murphy of Schenectady, NY, Grace Murphy (Ted Wales) of Lexington, MA, Edward Murphy (Renee) of Glens Falls, NY, and Robert Murphy (Andi) of Kissimmee, FL.
