Fort Edward
Norma L. VanTassell, 92, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2016 at the Fort Hudson Nursing home, Fort Edward.

Born in Hoosick Falls, NY on April 9, 1924 she was the daughter of the late, Jesse and Vera (Capon) Sherman.

Norma graduated from South Glens Falls High School.

On September 25, 1949, Norma married the love of her life, Raymond L. VanTassell Sr. at the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson Falls and they spent 59 loving years together until his passing in 2008.

Norma was briefly employed with G.E. and Scott Paper before leaving to raise her children.

Norma enjoyed gardening, camping with her family and playing scrabble. She was a great seamstress who made all of her own clothes as well as her children’s clothes while they were growing up.

In addition to her parents and husband, Norma is predeceased by her sister, Eileen Ricketts as well as her brother, Clyde Sherman.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Laura L. Passineau and her husband, William; her son, Raymond L. “Lynn” VanTassell Jr. and his wife, Linda; her grandchildren, Bradley VanTassell and his wife, Amanda, Jody VanTassell and his wife, Allison and Aimee Croft and her husband, Benjamin; her great grandchildren, Patience Johnston-Sigmin and her husband Clint, Collin and Jared Johnston, Caleb Allen and Nathaniel VanTassell; her great great grandchild, Kynlee Sigmin; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Norma’s request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St. So. Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3pm on Thursday May 12, 2016 at the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, 15 Maplewood Dr. So. Glens Falls, NY 12803, with the Rev. William Puckey, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow the memorial service at Southside Cemetery, Town of Moreau.

Memorial donations in Norma’s name can be made to the South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall Renovation Fund, 15 Maplewood Dr. So. Glens Falls, NY 12803.
