Obituary for Andree Celeste Johnson

Andree Celeste Johnson
Hudson Falls/ Argyle

Andrée Celeste Johnson, 78, passed away Monday May 16, 2016 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born January 19, 1938 in New York City she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Edna (Ehren) Haessly.

On August 31, 1957, Andrée married her high school sweetheart, Robert W. Johnson at St. Joseph’s in Fort Edward, NY. They were married for 58 years, raising four children on the family farm in Argyle.

Andrée graduated from Argyle Central School District in 1955. She started her career at the telephone company as an operator; she left to provide childcare in her home so she could spend time with her own children. In 1979 she went to college to become a registered nurse, something she had always wanted to do and found it very fulfilling. Even after her retirement she kept her license current, which she was very proud of. She retired from Washington County Public Health in 1998.

Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling, especially to Alaska and Ireland; and Florida every year. She relished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a former 4-H Leader, Boy Scout Leader, and was very involved with the American Heart Association. She belonged to the fraternal order of the Eagles. She was an avid knitter and there was nothing she could not sew. She loved antiquing and garage saling. You could always find her with a book in her hand reading to expand her knowledge. She also enjoyed helping at her daughter’s day care where she enjoyed her extended grandchildren. Andrée was the matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed for her problem solving, long conversations and advice. Most of all, Andrée will be missed for her compassion, thoughtfulness, and loving ways.

In addition to her parents Andrée was predeceased by her son, Phillip Johnson, June 5, 2012; and her husband Robert W. Johnson, February 19, 2015.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Jeannie Underwood and her husband, George, of Argyle, Celeste McDonald and her husband, David, of Hudson Falls, and Sue-Lynn Johnson of Argyle; Nine grandchildren, Courtney Harrington, Rob Underwood and his fiancée Melissa Harvey, Erica Thielemier and her husband John Paul, Amanda (Johnson) Stoddard and her husband Sean, Jarred Johnson, Melanie McDonald, Melissa McDonald, Ryan Johnson and his fiancé Katelyn, and Brendon Johnson and his significant other Courtney; and seven great grandchildren, Whitney, Owen, Alayna, Isabella, Emily, Liliannah, and Darby; her brother, William Haessly and his wife Lynn; sisters, Diane Colvin, and her husband Edward, Susan Hafner, and her husband Mark; brother-in-laws, Richard Johnson and his wife Eleanor and Vernon Johnson; she had many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and her two Siamese cats Willy and Zuki.
