Helene C. Varney, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2016 with her family by her side.

Born December 21, 1934 in Mechanicville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Halsey and Edna (Moore) Sanders.

Helene married Kenneth Varney and together they raised their family until his passing in 2006.

Helene loved playing canasta and watching soap operas, especially Days of our Lives. She could often be found hanging out with her buddy, Mandy the cat. Most of all, Helene loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Helene was predeceased by her sons, Robert Varney and Daniel Varney, as well as all of her siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Henry Varney and his wife Barb, Kenneth Varney Putnam and his wife Michelle, James Varney and his fiancée Jenny Stevens, Robin Pike and her husband Michael, Dorothy Daniels and her fiancé Keith Donaldson and Kimberly Garner and her husband Robert, 26 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, as well as her beloved friend Donna Aiken and family, and her sisters-in-law Ida Richardson and Jessie Passino, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 11-1pm on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. A funeral service will be conducted following calling hours at the funeral home at 1pm with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow services at Union Cemetery in Fort Edward.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Community Hospice of Saratoga including Pamela and Sarah for their kindness and compassion during Helene’s illness. They suggest that memorial donations in Helene’s name can be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
