George R. Terpening, 85, of Gansevoort Rd. passed away peacefully on Sunday January 15, 2017 at the Glens Falls Hospital with his family by his side.

Born on August 11, 1931 in Schoharie, NY, he was the son of the late, Oakley G. and Blanche M. (Eaton) Terpening.

George attended grade school at Schoharie Central School. He then attended the Abraham Wing School in Glens Falls up until the eighth grade before enrolling at the Zion Bible Institute in East Providence R.I.

On March 30, 1957, George married the love of his life, Louise I. Barney at the Gospel Light House Church, Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Robert Canterbury officiating the service.

George was the Associate pastor of the Full Gospel Church in Gansevoort for many years. George and his wife attend the Gospel Light House Church in Hudson Falls.

He held many caretaker jobs throughout the region, including Southside Cemetery, Meads Nursery, Glens Falls National Bank, Glens Falls Home for Aging Women as well as owner operator of Quality Nursery in Moreau.

His favorite pastimes included outdoors activities such as camping, fishing and gardening. He loved to cook but most of all enjoyed the time he spent with his friends, family and animals.

In addition to his parents, George is predeceased by his brothers, David Terpening and Carl Terpening; his sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Sara Betty Terpening; and his in laws, Ralph and Emma Barney.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Louise I. (Barney) Terpening; his daughters, Cindy Smith and her husband, Roger, of South Glens Falls, Brenda Long and her husband, Walter, of Fort Edward and Colleen McNutt and her husband, Greg, of Gansevoort; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Winslow and her husband, Brian, of South Glens Falls, Rebekah Sterling and her husband, J.R., of KY and Jesselyn McNutt, of Gansevoort; his grandson, Paul McNutt; his brother in law, Ralph Barney and his wife, Ellen, of OH and his sister, Norma Terpening Green, of Fort Edward; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11am on Thursday January 19, 2017 at the Funeral home with the Rev. Ralph M. Barney and Rev. Derik Bartholomew, pastors, co-officiating.
