Barbara (Sweeney) Swan, 87, of Donna Ave. passed away peacefully on Friday February 3, 2017 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Born in Glens Falls, on December 29, 1929 she was the daughter of the late, Dennis J. and Josephine M. (Dever) Sweeney.

Barb attended the St. Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls and graduated in the class of 1947.

In 1950 Barbara married the love of her life, Hubert Swan in Glens Falls, at St. Mary’s Church and the two spent 57 loving years together until his passing in 2007.

Barbara took great pride in the fact that she raised her family before becoming a Unit Secretary at the Glens Falls Hospital in the Day Surgery Unit, where she made many long lasting friends over her 30 years of employment.

Barbara enjoyed watching sports. She was a fan of the New York Yankees as well as the Adirondack Red Wings when they were in Glens Falls. She loved attending church, spending time with friends and most of all spending time with her loving family.

She was a communicant of St. Michael’s the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls, for over 50 years, serving on the bereavement committee as well as the Rosary Altar Society.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara is predeceased by her two infant daughters, Sandra and Barbara as well as her brother in law, Richard Dickinson.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Chris Seelye and her husband, Pat of Queensbury, Nancy Ostrander and her husband, Kevin of So. Glens Falls, Kim Little and her husband, J. David of Glens Falls, Karen Carpenter and her husband, Phil of So. Glens Falls and Michelle Sturdevant and her husband, Ross of Glens Falls; her son, Dan Swan and his wife, Lola of Schuylerville; her grandchildren, Hannah Seelye-Waite and her spouse, Helen, Kevin and Lisa Ostrander, Marla and Robert Butler, Eric and April Ostrander, Cameron Labarge, Shane Carpenter and his wife, Amanda, Marissa Macey and her husband, Jared, Logan Carpenter, Tanner and Tessa Cormie and Casey and Daniel Swan; her great grandchildren, Clara Butler, Collin Ostrander, Tatum Butler, Caleb Ostrander, Audrianna Carpenter, Bryce Green, Chloe Culhane and Marley and Kendall Cormie; her sisters, Joan Dickinson and Peggy Breen and her husband, Martin; her special friend, Anna Jane Clear who Barbara loved like a sister; as well as many nieces nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to call from 10-11am on Monday February 6, 2017 at St. Michael’s the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Ave. So. Glens Falls, NY 12803.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated following calling hours at the Church at 11 am with the Rev. Guy A. Childs, Pastor, officiating.

A Rite of Committal will be held in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery, So. Glens Falls.
