Obituary for Gloria S. Perkins

SOUTH GLENS FALLS

Gloria S. (Stolle) Perkins, 91, passed away on February 8, 2017 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born May 2, 1925 in Port Chester, NY, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Gladys Stolle.

In 1945, Gloria became engaged to Norman Perkins after he came home from WWII, in which he was a prisoner of war in Germany during the winter and spring of that year. They married on Christmas Day at the Episcopal Church in Port Chester, NY. Their one week honeymoon started with a train ride from Penn Station to Boston. They celebrated New Year’s Eve at the Hotel Vendome.

From 1946-1949 they resided with Gloria’s parents in Port Chester while Gloria worked as a secretary and Norman completed his three remaining years at Columbia University. Following his graduation, Norman was hired by Scott Paper Company and became a Chief Consumer Representative that required many transfers and business related travel. Throughout his career, the couple resided in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Everett, WA.

In the five years in Everett (1973-1978) Gloria made many friends and enjoyed the Northwest culture and mild climate. In addition, the couple traveled to Manila, Phillipines for business and pleasure. While there, Gloria’s experiences were very memorable. She observed a very large military prescence and was amazed by so many people working in services for such low pay.

The couple moved back east in 1978 to South Glens Falls, NY. They spent many enjoyable times with family and friends, including trips to St. Maarten and Aruba until Norman’s passing in 2002.

Later, Gloria vacationed with their sons in Ocracoke, NC and Wildwood, FL, and frequently visited their homes in Lake Luzerne and Loon Lake.

Gloria will always be remembered as a warm and caring wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria was predeceased by her brother, Robert Stolle, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Jeffrey Perkins and his wife Sheryl, and Gregory Perkins and his wife Gayle, her grandchildren; Mark Elmendorf, Kristin Cimini and her husband Kevin, Chelsey Perkins, and Chad Perkins and his wife Kierra, as well as her great-grandchildren; Josette Cimini, and Zoey and Addison Perkins.

At Gloria’s request there will be no calling hours or services.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations in Gloria’s name can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are in the care of the M. B Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
