Obituary for Alma T. Chmielewski (Trombley)

Alma T. Chmielewski (Trombley)
South Glens Falls
Alma T. Chmielewski, of South Glens Falls, was called home March 2nd, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was 93 years old. Born on July 3, 1923 in St. John’s, Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Octave and Lucienne Boyer Trombley.
Through her 93 years of life, she had a positive impact on all of those who came to know her. She lived genuinely, had an infallible sense of humor, and laughed with her whole heart. She married the love of her life, Chester (Chet) J. Chmielewski on September 19th, 1964. The two of them lived together in South Glens Falls until he passed away in July of 1994.

Alma worked as a waitress and short order cook at many local establishments and iconic restaurants in the area for the majority of her life. She was employed at Schoelermann’s, Kansas, Hyde’s, Martha’s, Sears and JCPenny coffee Shops and LUMS Restaurants in both Glens Falls and South Glens Falls before she retired from LUMS in 1986.
Alma was a member of St. Alphonsus and St. Michael’s Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a 50 year member of The Ladies of St. Anne’s. She also was a member of The Fraternal Order of the Eagles for many years. One of Alma’s favorite past times was bowling. She was a member of the Woman’s Bowling Association and a league member for most of her life. She bowled in Hudson Falls, Glens Falls, South Glens Falls, Fort Edward, and in Port Charlotte, Florida when she spent winters there. She participated in many state and regional bowling tournaments as well throughout her life. She was also an avid card player and was always wanting to strike up a hand of Skip Bo with anyone who visited and would play. Her greatest love and enjoyment however, came from spending time with her family and her friends. She had a remarkable sense of humor, a beautiful smile, and an infectious laugh which was enjoyed by all who knew her.
Alma is survived by two sons, Ronald Baker of Colonie, NY and Kenneth Baker and his wife Cynthia of Queensbury, NY, and two daughters, Bonnie Herbaly and her husband William of South Glens Falls, NY and Mary Cowles and her husband Melvin of New Bern, NC; 13 grandchildren: Cindy Lee Robarge and her family of Pittsfield MA, Joseph Baker and his family of Cummings, GA, Tina Supple and her family of Pittsfield MA, Carrie LaNoir and her family of South Glens Falls, NY, Maria Elder and her family of Chicago, IL, Renee Perry of Arvonia, VA, John Herbaly and his family of Las Vegas, NV, Margaret Peterson and her family of Winchester, MA, Michelle Crandall of Ballston Spa, NY, Michael Cowles and his family, of Clifton Park, NY , Matthew Cowles and his family, of Glens Falls, NY, Jeffery Baker and his wife of Chicago, IL, and Brian Baker and his family of Bangor, ME.
