Obituary for Helen Hoffnagle (Thomas)

Helen (Thomas) Hoffnagle, 98, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Glens Falls Hospital after a brief illness.

Born on May 11, 1919 in Granville, she was the daughter of the late, Hugh and Jesse (Prouty) Thomas.

After high school, Helen continued her education at the Troy Conference Academy, class of 1936. She furthered her education at Green Mountain College. Throughout Helen’s life education was extremely important to her.

On March 14, 1961, Helen married, Hugh Hoffnagle in Middlebury, VT. They were married for 37 years until his passing in 1998.

She worked for 25 years at General Electric in Hudson Falls as a Lab Analyst until her retirement.

Helen loved traveling, playing bridge at the Queensbury Senior Center and in her younger years sewing and crocheting. She was an avid tennis player into her early 80’s. Helen loved going on family outings.

In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her first husband, Edwal Roberts and her second husband, Hugh Hoffnagle; her sons, Edwal Daniel Roberts Jr. and Brent Roberts; her granddaughter, Kim Howard; her great-granddaughter, Lauren E. Pronto; her siblings, Hugh Thomas Jr., Joyce Rowland, Reginald Thomas and Judy Durkee.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughter-in-law, Janice Roberts-Baker and her husband, Maynard; granddaughter, Tina (Roberts) Pronto and her husband, Mark; her great grandchildren, Christina Pronto and Justin Howard; her grandson-in-law, Thomas Howard; her brother, John Gerald Thomas and his wife, Mary; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1pm on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the funeral home with family friend, Regina Haag, officiating.

Burial will follow at Moss Street Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 3rd Floor Nurses of Tower 3 for their support and care over the last three weeks not only to Helen but also to her family.
