Obituary for Dorothy M. "Dot" Barber (Gadrick)

Dorothy M. “Dot” Barber, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer with loved ones by her side.

Born on January 1, 1935 in Rockaway Beach, Long Island, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Taylor) Gadrick.

On Sept. 16, 1954, Dot married Robert E. Barber in Arlington, Va. Together they spent 48 wonderful years until his passing in 2002.

Dot worked as a customer service representative for Zayres Corp. in Queensbury until her retirement in 1987.

She was a former member of the Hartford Yoked Parish, Woman’s Fellowship, Hartford Council of Churches, Argyle Senior Citizens, and the A.A.R.P. #1274, Dot acted as the tour and trip director for 31 years for all these groups. She was a past President and Vice President of the Hartford Senior Citizens and a past President of the Mettowee Valley Granville Senior Citizens where Dot met many lifelong friends. She was also a member of the Washington Co. Council for Senior Citizens and Washington Co. Advisory Council for the aging.

Dot enjoyed motorcycle touring with her husband, Bob, camping with her family, bowling, reading, and planning tours with all her friends. Most of all she enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dot was predeceased by her brother, Edward Gadrick; sisters, Yvonne Hamelin and Marie Lundy.

Left to cherish her memory include her son, Michael Barber and his wife Donna of Kirkland, Arizona; her daughter, Lisa Waldo and her husband, Thomas of Granville; her grandchildren, Kendyl and her partner Brent Bascom, Kevin, Sara, and Zachary and his partner Kaitlyn; close nieces and nephews, Michael Fish and his wife Janet of Greenwood, Indiana, Samantha Ward of Glens Falls, Gary Hibdon, Nancy Gadrick Akers both of LaVergne, TN, Eddie Gadrick and his wife, Judy of Hudson Falls; sister-in-law Ruth Gadrick of Hudson Falls; her cats, Chloe and Scooter; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Dot’s request there will be no calling hours.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1pm on May 5, 2018 at Greenwich Cemetery..

Memorial donations in Dot’s memory can be made to the Granville Rescue Squad, 64 E Potter Ave, Granville, NY 12832 or to Mettowee Valley Granville Senior Citizen Club, 7A Morrison Ave, Granville, NY 12832.
