Obituary for Donald H. Black Sr.

Fort Edward

Donald H. Black Sr., 86, of Fort Edward passed away peacefully in his sleep after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

Born on October 30, 1931 in Warrensburg, he was the son of the late Myrtle L. (Prosser) and Raymond C. Black Sr.

Mr. Black served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a retired Supervisor at Wilton Developmental Center. He was the Assistant Manager at Saratoga Bowling Alley. Don was a member of the American Legion and the Warrensburg Historical Society.

He was an avid fan of watching sports. Don spent his free time volunteering at both the former Corner Diner and the Ye Old Fort Diner. He enjoyed playing cards with “the girls” twice a week. Don loved hosting his annual family reunions and all the family gatherings.

In addition to his parents, Don is predeceased by his wife, Patricia A. (Drake) Black; and his brother, Raymond C. Black Jr.

Left to cherish his memory include his siblings, James Black of Warrensburg/FL, Janice Seefeld of Scotia, NY Arlene Ackley (Don) of Warrensburg/SC.

He is also survived by his seven children, Connie Havens (Michael) of Greenwich, Jackie Urbonowicz (Mike) of Gansevoort, Jack Straight (Cindy) of South Glens Falls, Donald Black Jr. (Janice) of Fort Edward, Donna Barnes of Ballston Spa, Patricia Winnie (Tony) of Glens Falls, JoAnn Black of Hudson, FL; several grandchildren and many, many great-grandchildren.

Following calling hours there will be a reception at 1085 Burgoyne Ave, Fort Edward.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
