Obituary for Michael J. McInnis

South Glens Falls

Michael J. McInnis, 66, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at his home.

Born on August 10, 1951 in North Sidney, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late John and Theresa (Antinello) McInnis.

On October 20, 2001, Michael married Maureen Murphy in Cumberland, Rhode Island. They resided in South Glens Falls for the past four years, previously having lived in Bellingham, Massachusetts. Michael moved to the U.S. in the early 1960’s from Canada.

Michael expressed his artistic creativity through the professions he chose and his passions in his personal life.

He was a morning show host for WOON AM, a local radio station in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Michael enjoyed talking to the listeners who called in. He also worked as an editor and freelance writer for many newspapers while living in Massachusetts. He produced his own weekly newspaper, “Here and there”, where he acted as publisher, editor and writer.

Michael was very active in Community Theater, both acting and directing. He was the Drama Club Advisor at Bellingham High School, where he cast and directed many performances. Michael was best known for the highly successful production of Cinderella in 2001 at the Stadium Theater in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He also wrote and directed his own play “Sideways on the Ark” performed by the Medway Community Players.

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his step mother, Mildred McInnis and his brother-in-law, Robert Graves.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 16 years, Maureen; his siblings, Darlene Tyler and her husband, Frederick of Milford, MA, Pamela Graves of Taunton, MA; his step sons, Jess Weidman of Richmond, VA and Rob Weidman and his wife, Roseanne, of Kutztown, PA; and two granddaughters as well as several nieces and nephews.

Michael will be remembered for his quick wit, delightful sense of humor and the laughter he shared with family and friends. He was a music lover and a collector of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s records. His favorite musical artists were the Beatles. Michael was an avid animal lover, who leaves behind his beloved dog, Triscuit, and his cats, Betty, Precious and Angel. Triscuit misses his great belly rubs and all the special treats. Waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge are his best cat friend, Buddy Boy and his dog, Daisy Mae.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Joseph Mihindu and the entire staff at Glens Falls Hospital Renal Center, Broad Street, Glens Falls. We appreciate the compassion and excellent care lovingly given to Michael during his dialysis treatments.

Services and Burial will be conducted in the spring at a time to be announced.

Arrangements are in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. To View Michael’s Book of memories and post online condolences please visit kilmerfuneralhome.com.
