Obituary for Leonard Kinsley Joiner

Fort Edward

Leonard Kinsley Joiner, 91, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Upstate Medical in Syracuse with his family by his side.

Born in Fort Edward on August 7, 1926, he was the son of the late Lyle Kinsley and Mary (Campbell) Joiner.

He was a graduate of Fort Edward High School and attended Skidmore College. In 1945, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving in the deep sea demolition and the Seabees Division. He was stationed in California and Okinawa.

On November 17, 1951, he married Dorothy Metcalf at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.

Leonard worked for Scott Paper in Fort Edward, retiring after 39 years of service.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, past member of the Idle Hour Club, a member of the Fort Edward American Legion Post #504, and Veterans of Foreign War in Glens Falls.

Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching horse racing, loved the Adirondacks and anything nature, his camp in Indian Lake and especially loved his dogs.

Along with his parents, Leonard is predeceased by his daughter, Susan Paula Schermerhorn Fenton, 2 sisters, Madeline Buckley and Claire Rifenberg.

Left to cherish his memories, are his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Joiner, son, Steven Kinsley Joiner and wife Valerie of Deltona, FL, daughter, Lori Coldwell and husband Samuel of Argyle, grandchildren, Steven Kinsley Joiner Jr., Peter Berrigan and wife Amanda, Katie Leggette and husband Mike, Kyle Owen Joiner, Amy Schermerhorn & husband Dr. Harry Wallace Mahood, Jessica Schermerhorn, Erica Leonard and husband Vincent, and Justin Coldwell, 8 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be conducted at 11:00am on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Union Cemetery, Fort Edward.
