Obituary for Bernard E. "Bernie" Charlebois

Queensbury

Bernard E. (Bernie) Charlebois, 85, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born on July 1, 1932, in St. Madeleine, Quebec, Canada. He was the son of Ephraim and Florence (Lemery) Charlebois. He moved to Glens Falls in 1947 from Plantagenet, Ontario Canada.

Bernie graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1950 and Bentley School of Accounting in Boston, Mass. in 1959. He was a member of Kapa Pi Alpha.

On August 23, 1958, he married Marianne (Sullivan) O’Brien in St. Michael’s Church in South Glens Falls.

Upon graduation from Bentley in 1959 he returned to Glens Falls and joined the public accounting firm Ball, George and Co., CPA’s. In 1990 he retired from the successor firm of Edwards, Williams, McManus, Ricciardelli and Coffey, CPA’s.

He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Bernie served on the City of Glens Falls Planning Board. He was a Democratic Committeeman in Glens Falls and more recently was an Election Inspector in Queensbury. He served on the Board of Directors and was the Treasurer of Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce. In 1989 he was the recipient of the Chairman’s Award.

He was a past member of the Glens Falls National Bank Regional Development Board. For many years he was active in fund raising for the American Red Cross and the Tri-County United Way where he served as Treasurer and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Bernie enjoyed boating and camping with his family for many years on Lake George. He also enjoyed gardening, wood working, fishing and scuba diving especially for 23 years in Marathon in the Florida Keys. He also enjoyed NASCAR races at Loudon, New Hampshire and at age 80 his son, Joe, treated him to a ride in a racecar at Loudon.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, John; his sisters, Margo and Laurette.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of nearly 60 years, Marianne; his daughter, Mary Merulla (Jack); his sons, Joseph Charlebois (Christine), Robert Charlebois (Buckley); his grandchildren, Ephraim Charlebois (Sarah), Anna Claire Charlebois; his sister, Betty Bromley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 10 to 11am on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at St. Mary’s Church, Glens Falls.

Funeral mass will be conducted following calling hours at church.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
