Obituary for Myrtle Moon

Myrtle Moon
Lake Luzerne

Myrtle Katherine Moon, of Lake Luzerne, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2nd, at the Warren Center in Queensbury surrounded by her family. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, she will be missed by everyone that knew her.

Myrtle was born a farm girl to parents Charles E. and Mabel Belle (Stanton) Bennett on January 29, 1934. As a child and teenager, she loved nothing more than to be riding her horse, including to school, and often talked about one particularly stubborn horse named “Tony”. The horse never liked to leave the barn and would race home like the wind, once throwing her off and breaking her arm. She still talked fondly of Tony and forgave him.

She graduated Hadley-Luzerne High School as Valedictorian of her class in 1952, and went to work for the phone company, Ma Bell, where she eventually was promoted to floor manager. Shortly after beginning work, she met her husband Eugene Moon of Lake George, after going on a horseback ride with friends. They were married December 5th, 1953.

Myrtle settled into life as a homemaker and mother, and loved raising her children and planning summer camping trips with her family along the east coast. She also loved to vacation with the family in Old Orchard Beach, Maine every summer.

Myrtle was a stickler for healthy eating, and always made sure everyone ate at healthy. Many endured her Tofu phase gracefully.

Later in life, Myrtle attended Adirondack Community College and received her Associates Degree in 1988. She worked to keep herself busy and active in the community as an empty nester.

Myrtle and Eugene also loved to travel, taking several cruises, trips to Hawaii, and countless road trips. She taught herself to Crochet and spent many nights busily working on new projects.

With the kids all out of the house, Myrtle and Gene loved to take weekend drives with her nephew Royce and his wife Mary. They also loved to have breakfast at Molly’s Restaurant in Luzerne.

Myrtle especially enjoyed visits at her nursing home from Gail Guyette and Royce and Mary, as well as from many other family and friends.

In addition to her parents Charles and Mabel Bennett, Myrtle was predeceased by her siblings Marguerite (Eldridge), Mildred (Stewart), Willis, Myron, Marshall, and Walter Bennett. She is also predeceased by her grand daughter Krystal Woodard, of Whitehall.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Eugene Moon, and by her children, Terry (BettyLee) Moon of Queensbury, Ricky Moon, Cindy (Bill Woodard) of Whitehall, Robert Moon of Saint Petersburg, Florida, Lonnie (Evan) Moon of Saint Petersburg, Florida, and Rebecca (Chuck) Jones of Fort Ann, NY, seven grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Myrtle will be missed dearly by her friends and family.

A celebration of Myrtle's life will be from 12 noon to 4pm on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the home of her son and son--in-law, Lonnie & Evan, 994 East River Drive, Lake Luzerne.

Burial will be in Lake Luzerne Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
