Obituary for Robert M. Patten

Robert M. Patten
Hudson Falls

Robert Martin Patten, the last of the Patten boys, went "home" on April 12, 2018.

His family of fourteen brothers and sisters grew up on a farm with their parents James and Evelyn Patten in Adamsville, New York.

Rob loved sports, and remembered attending a one-room schoolhouse, practicing ball, then walking ten miles home to do his farm chores. Bob was proud to serve in the United States Army Aircorp from 1942-1945. One of his greatest attributes was his strong work ethic. He could repair, drive or fix anything. Bob loved bowling, golfing, fishing, playing cards, and had restored two antique cars. He was one of the founding members of The Cooper's Cave Model A Auto Club. After retiring from the Scott Paper Company, he was fortunate to travel with his wife Jane Chard Patten. They enjoyed winters in Myrtle Beach and visiting with their children Carol Patten Huckle, and Robert Peter and Lillian Patten. Robert's grandchildren were a source of great pride, and he leaves fond memories to Lisa Jo Patten and Doug Looney, Robert Ignatius (Rip) and Theresa Patten, Rebecca Patten, Jennifer Huckle and Kevin Schoden, and Laura Patten. Ten great-grandchildren from North Carolina, Maine, New York, and Ontario, Canada, will remember Gramps. Three sisters, Mildred Paradis, Gladys Flynn, and Elaine Benson, and four sisters-in-law Lois Patten, Darlene Patten, Maryanna Chard, Mary Jane Rouse, and many adored nieces, nephews, and cousins remain. Robert was predeceased by his son Martin David Patten, and his siblings Dick Patten, Ida Dessaint, Cliff Patten, Edward Patten, James Patten, Howard Patten, Kay Patten, Raymond Patten, Betty Duel, and Dot Claire. He was blessed with a long and fruitful life, and will live forever in our hearts.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Sandy Hill and Fort Edward Union Cemetery on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.

Arrangements are in the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward. For online condolences and to view Rob's Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
