Obituary for Clenia Theresa Pendergrass

Argyle

Clenia T. Pendergrass, 100, formerly of Argyle, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, Fort Edward.

She was born in Smith’s Basin, Kingsbury, NY on March 28th, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Anna Orsini Williams and Francesco Guglielmi (Frank Williams) who were born in Pettorano Sul Gizzio, Abruzzo, Italy.

She graduated from Fort Edward High School.

As a young girl, Clenia and her family lived in Smith’s Basin where her father worked for the local lime quarry. Clenia and her family moved to Fort Edward after the death of the father. After high school Clenia had many jobs. While working at Yorkland Restaurant in Fort Edward, she met her future husband, Colman Pendergrass.

They were married on January 12, 1947 in South Glens Falls and were married for 25 years until his passing in July 1972.

They eventually moved to Argyle, NY where they raised their three children. Colman was a rural mail carrier and Clenia stayed home with their children. When the children were older she went to work for her brother-in-law at Del Amusement as a bookkeeper and later at Knobby’s Records in Hudson Falls.

She was a member of the Argyle United Methodist Church, Argyle United Methodist Women, Home Bureau and the Argyle Improvement Association.

Clenia enjoyed baking, cooking, quilting, antiquing, and the town wide garage sales where her granddaughters came to help. She was known in Argyle for her chocolate chip cookies and apple pies. She was very family oriented and loved caring for her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Clenia was predeceased by her husband, J. Colman Pendergrass; sisters, Madeline McCauley, Pauline DeGraw, Josephine Williams, Armenia Williams and Susie DelSignore.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Anna Herbert (James) of South Carolina; sons, Joseph Pendergrass (Paula) of Queensbury, and James Pendergrass (Kathleen) of Florida; grandchildren, Jessica Herbert (Jeremy), Kevin Herbert (Robyn), Brian Herbert (Jennifer), Melissa Weichold (Brad), Amanda Pendergrass, Jaime Pendergrass and Kelly Pendergrass; great grandchildren, Lauren Clenia Guynup, Noah Weichold and Olivia Herbert; sister, Julia Scoville; brother-in-law, MacAvoy Pendergrass; along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 11:00am to 12 noon on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main St. Argyle, NY 12809.

A Funeral Service will follow the calling hours on Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Argyle following the service.
