Obituary for Howard Lewis Bowen

Howard Lewis Bowen of Kingsbury, NY went to meet his Lord and Savior on April 20,
2016. He was born in Amesbury, MA on 7/13/36. In college, Howard entered a debate
with fellow students about the existence of God. He purchased a Bible from Sears &
Roebuck and started to read it. One Sunday in 1955, Howard visited the First Baptist
Church in Newton, N.H. Pastor Young took the Bible and explained God’s Plan of
Salvation. First, God loves us and has a purpose for our lives, but Everyone has chosen
to disobey - (Romans 3:23). As a result of sin, Everyone will die physically leading to an
eternal spiritual separation from God as well. (Romans 6:23). BUT the Bible says that
God loves Everyone so much He was willing to provide a Savior (John 3:16). That
Savior, God’s only Son, Jesus was put to death on the Cross. But His resurrection from
the grave 3 days later completed God’s plan of Salvation (1 Cor 15:3-4). Everyone who
will admit they are not perfect, and that Jesus is the Son of God and the only substitution
for sin, and will receive God’s free gift can be saved. Salvation is open to any and all
who believe.
That Sunday, Howard and Jeannette both walked forward to confess before man and God,
salvation through Christ. One of Howard’s favorite stories was how ‘they met at the
Altar’!
They were married May 4th, 1958. He is survived by his wife Jeannette (Standing).
Children: Stephen and Deanne (Gravino) Bowen, Nancy (Bowen) and Bill Crago, Philip
and Sherry (Lassiter) Bowen, Ruth (Bowen) and Paul McMahon and Deborah (Bowen)
and David Landgren, 26 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. In 1977 Howard served as a Local Church
Missionary with Word of Life Fellowship for 38 years. He personally influenced many
men who are leaders all over the world. He was instrumental in sharing the Good News
of Salvation through Jesus Christ personally to hundreds, and in ministry to thousands.
He was a man of integrity and godly example to all who knew him. His last wish was to
share that God made a way, through Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, to
bridge the gap that sin made between God and you. There will be a Memorial Service
April 30, 2016; 1pm at New Hope Community, 454 Corinth Rd, Queensbury, NY. Please
contact Pastor Robbie Lankford at 518-798-5778 with any questions. In Lieu of flowers,
donations can be sent to LifeSource Church, 350 Stafford St, Cherry Valley, Ma 01611 -
