Obituary for John Anthony Coley

SOUTH GLENS FALLS

John Anthony Coley, 84, of Barefoot Bay, Florida passed away on January 28, 2017 at Holmes Regional Medical Center/Trauma Unit in Melbourne, Florida with his loving daughters and son-in-law by his side following an accident at home.

John was born in 1932 in Ticonderoga, NY to John A. Coley and Evelyn M. Crossman. John attended Ticonderoga High School and received a four year degree from Plattsburg State. John took courses from SUNY Plattsburg, SUNY Albany, Cornell University, and Ohio State University during his post graduate studies.

John was employed by the South Glens Falls Central School District as an Elementary School Teacher and a 7th grade Science Teacher. Then on to Hadley-Luzerne Central School as an Elementary Supervisor. He moved on to Ballston Spa Central School as an Elementary Principal/ Supervisor. He retired as Assistant Superintendent at South Glens Falls Central School.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed numerous boating adventures with his grandsons on his pontoon boat on Lake Champlain. John loves being outside and taking his golden retriever “Charlie” for walks. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends and his daughter Jody. He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He will truly be missed by all.

Besides his parents he is predeceased by his sister, Barbra Dalmaso, of Florida; and half-brothers, Harold and Floyd Ackerly, of Liberty.

John is survived by his ex-wife, Betty Coley; his son, John Coley and his wife, Connie of, Virginia; his daughters, Julie White and her husband, Paul of, South Glens Falls, Jody Wade and her husband, Mark of, Florida; his grandson, Michael Rushman and his fiancé, Corie Linehan of, Cambridge, Matthew Rushman and his partner, Shawn Huckins of, Denver, Colorado; his sister, Marie Schersching and her husband, Gary of, San Antonio, Texas; his half-brother, Rubin Ackerly and his wife, Debbie of, Liberty, New York; his brother-in-law, John Dalmaso, and several nieces and nephews.

At John’s request there will be no calling hours.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in the spring.
