Obituary for Alberta Maynard (Mitchell)

SOUTH GLENS FALLS

Alberta “Bertha” Maynard, age 96, a longtime resident of South Glens Falls passed away on July 30, 2010 at The Pines of Glens Falls.

Born on August 29, 1913, in Minerva, Bertha was the daughter of the late Michael and Bessie (Mitchell) Lyden. Following her mother’s death, Bertha was raised by her aunt and uncle, Joseph and Ethel Mitchell.

Bertha met her soon-to-be husband at the Empire Theater in Glens Falls, and on May 30, 1941, she married Ubald “Art” Maynard in St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. Art passed away on April 5, 2006 after 64 years of marriage.

Along with her husband, Bertha was the proprietor of M&M Dry Cleaning Service on Lincoln Avenue in Glens Falls for many years.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Bertha was predeceased by her sisters, Marion, Bernice and Thelma.

She is survived by several cousins, including her closest, Audrey Booth; as well as her close friend Peggy Limmer.

Friends may call on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 between 12:30 and 1 p.m. at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. Services will be conducted by Regina Baird Haag, pastor, Adirondack Friends Meeting. Online condolences may be posted at kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A funeral service will be held following calling hours, with burial to take place thereafter at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls,
