Obituary for Alene Mary Brown (Heil)

Alene Mary Heil Brown, 95, of Queensbury, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday January 5, 2019. Alene was born on January 20, 1923 in Glens Falls, NY the daughter of Dominic and Deila Morrissey Heil. She grew up in the Glen Falls area with her siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Alene was a Class of 1940 Graduate of St. Mary’s Academy. She was cheerful, funny and always willing to lend a helping hand. Alene was a remarkable woman and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Alene married the love of her life, Russell S. Brown, on October 17, 1942 and they raised a family of seven, including twin daughters. Alene loved the holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for the occasion. She and her husband made many friends throughout the years and enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, bowling, skiing, boating on Lake George and in Florida, family outings and just relaxing with family and friends. Alene was a long-time member of the Glens Falls Country Club where she hit 2 hole-in-ones. In her younger years she was a member of the Glens Falls Operetta Club. She enjoyed spending time at her homes in North Ft. Meyers, Englewood and Placida, Florida and Queensbury. Alene was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Englewood, Fl. and the Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic church in Queensbury, NY.

Alene was a wonderful and beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell S. Brown; her two sons, Stephen and Russell Scott Brown; her brothers, Richard and Donald Heil and her great grandson Andrew Wadleigh. She is survived by her only sister Shirley Dingman and her five daughters, Christine and her husband E. Peter Marshall of Queensbury, Louise Richmond and her fiancé Jeffrey Platt of Glens Falls and Placida, FL, Sandra and her husband William Bechtold of Raleigh, NC, Susan and her husband Ben Gauthier of Raleigh, NC and Kathleen and her husband David Martin of Glens Falls. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Peter Marshall, Amy Merchant, Lynn Wadleigh, Rita Marshall-Dixon, David Marshall, Aaron Richmond, D. Christopher Martin, Laura Nacua, and Brittany Duncan; her great grandchildren Natalie and Benjamin Marshall, Marina and Russell Merchant, Jessica, Kristen and Ericka Wadleigh, Nina Marshall, Connor McCane, Logan, Jonathan and Anna Marshall, Richard Duncan and Ava Nacua along with many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday January 11, 2019 at 10 am at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church in Queensbury. At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

Burial will be conducted on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 11am at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls.
