Alfred “Al” Stewart, 87, went into the arms of the Lord on Friday. March 3. 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

Born October 29, 1935 in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was the son of the late Alfred and Madeline (Lynch) Stewart.

Al resided in Gansevoort until 1952 when he married Marion (Cook) Stewart who predeceased him in 2003. He and his family moved to California. In the early years in Gansevoort, Al rode his horse Bess to see one of the sisters on the Washburn Dairy Farm. In September of 2013, one sister came to pick berries at the farm. She asked the man on the tractor, “Where is Alfred Stewart?”. He answered “Who wants to know?” She answered “Lois Washburn.”, at which point Al jumped off his tractor, ran to greet her, and picked her right up off her feet. He said he never forgot that girl of 11 or 12 with her blue eyes and her smile. Al and Lois were married November 16, 2013 at Pine Knolls Alliance Church with Pastor Steven VanDixhorn.

Al and Lois retired to their home in Gansevoort. They enjoyed birds, especially the bluebirds that nested in boxes they bought for them. Al and Lois enjoyed working in the soil, especially vegetable and flower gardening.

Al and Lois attend Pine Knolls Alliance Church in South Glens Falls. Many people, along with the pastors, prayed for a long time for encouragement and strength for them, and Lois wished to extend a special thank you to them. “We are blessed!”
