Obituary for Anthony Joseph Schenk

SOUTH GLENS FALLS -

Anthony Joseph Schenk, age 72, of South Glens Falls died on May 7, 2010 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He had been a patient at Crescent Manor in Bennington, Vermont for a year and a half.

Anthony was born in Morgan Hill, California on August 15, 1938 the son of the late Kenneth and Mary (Catalfamo) Pattee. He and his sister were adopted by his stepfather, Roland Schenk, when he married their mother.

Anthony worked for Breslaw’s in Glens Falls for 20 years, and then became the manager of The Outlet on Warren Street for 15 years. When the business closed, Anthony opened his own store on Broad Street, called Tony’s Furniture.

He was Scoutmaster of Troop 102 in St. Michaels’ Church for 18 years and had 18 Eagle Scouts. He was extremely proud of the scouts that were in his program and especially those that completed the Eagle requirements. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.

Anthony married the love of his life, Clara (Ricketts) Schenk, on May 4, 1958 in St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls with the Reverend Francis Dunbar officiating. They would go on to spend 52 years together, sharing their love for each other, raising their children, and being each others best friend.

Anthony will be greatly missed, but always loved by his family and his many friends.

In addition to his wife and stepfather, Anthony is survived by his two sons, Roland Schenk and his wife, Jeanie, of Hudson Falls, and Anthony Schenk Jr. and his wife, Robin of Hudson Falls; his five daughters, Laurie Smith and her husband Dewey of Plattsburgh, Mary Rock of South Glens Falls, Heidi Schenk and her mate, Jim Archer, of Glens Falls, Melissa Griffen and her husband, Dan, of Troy, and Sandra Wilson and her husband, Bob, of Ithaca; her 15 grandchildren, Roland Schenk II, Christina Woodward, Alicia Hanson, Heather Schenk, Jeffery Schenk, Paul Aldrich, Amber Schenk, Adam Porilier, Matthew Loomis, Allen Loomis, Ryan Normile, Brianna Williams, Joshua Griffen, Blake Antal, Connor Keating, and Cole Wilson; his great grandchildren, Cassette, Tyler, Kiana, Miralla, Jeffery II, and Kylee; his sister, Shirley McWhorter and her husband, John, of Argyle; his brother, Clifford Schenk; his sister, Frances Briere McDonald; his uncle, Bob Weber and his wife, Florence of California; his brother-in-laws, Gene Ricketts of Hudson Falls, Steven Gaucia and is wife, Theresa, of Whitehall, and John Gaucia and his wife, Joann, of Hudson Falls; his beloved pet Doberman, Polly; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on the family from 4 and 7 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2010 between at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY. Online condolences may be posted at kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 7 p.m. on May 10, 2010 with the Reverend Guy A. Childs, pastor of St. Michael’s Church in South Glens Falls, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Crescent Manor Care Center and the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for the compassion and care given to Anthony during his time of illness.

The family suggests donations in Anthony’s name be given to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Moreau Emergency Squad, Inc, 1583 State Route 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828, or the Crescent Manor Care Center, 312 Crescent Boulevard, Bennington, VT 05201.
