Arthur Thomas Johnson, 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at his home.

Born on June 2, 1930, in Niverville, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Belcher) Johnson.

Art graduated in 1947 from Martin H. Glenn High School in Valatie, NY. In 1951, Art enlisted into the United States Army and served till 1953 in the 82nd Airborne in Fort Benning, GA.

On June 5, 1955, Art married the love of his life Elizabeth Berlin at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant, NY by Pastor Clarence Wollslager.

Art enjoyed automobile restoration, his pet dogs and cats, and was a huge NASCAR fan. He loved to travel with his wife and had visited all 50 states.

He was a member of the John W. McConnell American Legion Post 47 for over 50 years and also a past Columbia County Commander and past Columbia County Americanism Chairman.

In addition to his parents, Art was predeceased by his sisters, Grace (Max) Cross, Vivian (Jake) Novak; his brother, Grant (Dolly) Johnson.

Left to cherish his memory includes his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth; his children, Thomas Johnson of Hartford, Tamara (Herbert) Griffen of Troy; his brother, Richard Johnson of Hampden, MA; and several nieces.

At Art’s request there will be no calling hours.

Services with full military honors will be conducted at 12 noon on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.

Donations in Art's memory may be made to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 543 Glen Street
Glen Falls, NY 12801.
