Obituary for Arthur Francis LaVigne
Glens Falls
Arthur F. LaVigne, 87, formerly of Fort Edward and most recently of The Pines, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Whitehall on December 4, 1924, he was the son of the late Martin and Frances (Rodd) LaVine.
He grew up in Whitehall and Glens Falls and attended school in Glens Falls.
On September 17, 1942, Arthur enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was very proud and honored to have seen the flag raised on Iwo Jima.
He married Edith M. (Bruso) Keenan on June 17, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward with Monsignor Fox officiating. They spent 53 wonderful years together before her passing in 2001.
Arthur worked for 40 plus years of dedicated service at Scott Paper in Fort Edward.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.
Arthur loved to reminisce about his war stories and enjoyed a good home cook meal. He and his wife Edie loved to travel and go camping and especially loved to spend time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, Arthur is predeceased by his siblings, Edna Merwin, Martin LaVigne, and Ernie LaVine, daughter in-law, Carol Keenan, and son in-law, Bill Mylott.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Shirley Allen and husband John of Hudson Falls, John Keenan and wife Normie of Pittsfield, Mass., Richard LaVigne and wife Gloria of Queensbury, Mary (Mylott) Clark and husband Jerry of Fort Edward, ten grandchildren, many great grandchildren, sisters: Joyce Massiano and husband Michael, Joan Gross and husband Chris, and Beverly Brennan; sister’s in-law: Bertha LaVigne and Josephine LaVine; brother in-law: Robert Merwin; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St, So. Glens Falls, NY 12803. Online condolences may be posted at kilmerfuneralhome.com.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at St Michael’s The Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Ave, South Glens Falls, NY 12803 with Rev. Guy A. Childs, pastor, officiating.
The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery, Fort Edward.
Donations may be made in Arthur’s name to American Diabetes Assoc., 2 Pine West Plaza, Suite 204, Albany, NY 12205.
The family would like to thank the Dr’s and staff on the 2nd floor tower at Glens Falls Hospital for their excellent care of Arthur during the past week.
