Obituary for Charles J. "Chuck" Bailey

Charlie J. “Chuck” Bailey, 75, of Gansevoort, died peacefully at the Glens Falls Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.
A resident of Fort Edward and Cossayuna Lake, Charlie was born in Argyle on April 13, 1933, the son of the late Charles H and Ada (Wilson) Bailey
Charlie was a member of the United States Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Quincy as a Boson Mate during the Korean conflict, and continued his active duty with the Seabees. Following his active duty, he served with the Seabees in the Glens Falls Naval Reserve for many years.
After his honorable discharge from military service, Charlie worked for Peckham Materials as an asphalt distributor. Then, following his retirement after 36 years in the business, he worked for D.A. Collins Construction Company.
Charlie married the love of his life, Donna Straus, on September 4, 1976 on Cossayuna Lake.
Charlie’s greatest passion was spending countless hours on and around Cossayuna Lake with his family and many friends. He took great pleasure in teaching others how to water-ski and enjoyed all activities on the lake. Given time, there was no one Charlie couldn’t get up on skis for a pass around the lake, much to his great satisfaction.
Charlie was a founding member of the Cossayuna Lake Improvement Association; past member of the Greenwich Elks Lodge, BPOE 2223; as well as a current member of the Greenwich VFW Post No. 7291 and the Lakeville Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his brothers, Bob Jeffords and Ed Jeffords; and his sister Ann Bailey.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Donna and their 4 daughters, Bonnie Trackey of Greenwich, Jacquie Stacey and her husband Ty of Greenfield Center, Bonnie Besson and her husband Christopher of Colonie, and Lisa Bailey and her husband Tom Bain of Cossayuna; grandchildren, Jennifer White and her husband James of Victory Mills, Sean “Guy” Trackey of Greenwich, Kaitte Besson of Colonie, Zachary Stacey of Greenfield Center, Bailey Bain of Cossayuna; his great granddaughter Alyssa White of Victory Mills; his brothers and sisters, Henry Jeffords of Greenwich, Dorothy Brownell of Florida, John Bailey and his wife Barbara of Greenwich, Gene Bailey of Fort Edward, Andy Bailey and his wife Carol of Cossayuna, Don Bailey of Greenwich, and Donna Finn of Argyle; his beloved four-legged friend, his Lhasa Apso, Gidget; and his two sons Charles H. Bailey and family and Scott Bailey.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the M. B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward.
A funeral service will be conducted 12 noon on Wednesday October 8 at Lakeville Baptist Church on County Route 49 in Cossayuna with the Rev. Sandra Spaulding, pastor, officiating
Burial will follow at Cossayuna Lake Cemetery.
The family suggests that donations be made in Charlie’s memory to Lakeville Baptist Church, County Route 49, Cossayuna, New York 12813.
