Obituary for Clarence Joseph Havens

HUDSON FALLS
Clarence Joseph Havens, 90, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at his home on Schuyler Street, with his loving family at his bedside.

Born on April 17, 1919 in Fort Edward, he was the son of Clarence M. and Sarah (Mullen) Havens.

Clarence grew up in Fort Edward and as World War II progressed he joined the Army and served as a 2nd Lt. in the Infantry. During his time in the military he furthered his education.

He married the love of his life, Catherine Ashley, on May 1, 1945 in Glens Falls, NY. Together they settled in Hudson Falls to raise their family.

Clarence worked for 35 years with the Hudson Falls and Fort Edward General Electric Companies as a Work Leader and Quality Control Inspector.

Clarence was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and played semi-pro baseball with the Hudson Falls Iroquois in the 1930's and 40's. His family took great pride in his many flower beds which will continue to flourish under the care of his granddaughter Katie. His greatest enjoyment was his life with Catherine and their seven children, their many grandchildren and great grand children.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Edward Havens and his sister Elizabeth Doty; his brothers-in-law: Donald Lawrence, Walter Doty, Marshall Havens, Robert LaRock and Frank Walsh and his sister-in-law Mary Rae Branch.

Survivors besides his wife of 64 years are his seven children: Michael J. Havens and his wife Teresa; David A Havens and his companion Mary Macura; Gail A. Newell and her husband James; Colleen Kubish and her husband Donald; Terry Havens and his companion Lois Liebig; Patrick Havens and his wife Felicia and Jack Havens and his wife Cindy, his grandchildren: Michael J. Havens Jr; Andrea and Erica Vigar; David Havens, Mark Havens; Jason Havens; Sarah Havens; James Newell and his wife Michele; Brian Newell and his wife Jaci; Katie Havens; Donna Havens; Charles Havens; Shannon Havens and Jack Havens; and his great grand children: Michael J. Havens III; Kylie Jo Havens; Kennedy Havens; Whitney Boothby; Lillian Newell; Abbigail Newell and Mia Newell; his brother Jack Havens and his wife Helen; his sisters: Phyllis Lawrence; Patricia LaRock and her companion Tom Kenney; Joan Walsh and her companion Lee Turner and Connie Havens and his sister-in-law Marion Havens and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends and family may call from 5-8pm on Friday, January 15, 2010 at the M. B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY.

A funeral service and burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fort Edward will be private and at the convenience of the family.
