Obituary for Corrine Joyce Zickler (Fowler)

Corrine Joyce Fowler Zickler departed this world May 31,2021 to join her previously deceased husband George after 60 years of marriage.

She is survived by her three children Cheryl (Mike Rizzo), Donna (Jim Ruehlin), and Rod (Susan Switaj). She has three grandsons: Joshua Goldstein (Jessica Moore), David Goldstein, and Harrison Zickler.

Daryl, her younger brother has recently died, but his twin sister Darlene now lives in Florida.

She graduated from Hartford Central High School in 1952. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Cortland, having majored in performance piano and education, and then her master’s degree in education from SUNY Potsdam University in 1966. Although she was a beloved school music teacher, her piano was her true love. Her house in Kingston was constantly filled with everything from Rachmaninov to show tunes. Anyone lucky enough to hear her play at any number of singalongs at family gatherings, Christmas parties, or the occasional emergency stand in at church would witness her love of the instrument, the music, and the joy of performance. She taught instrumental music at Catskill Junior High School, and directed their band for thirty years until retirement. She remained actively involved even after retirement, accompanying high school musicals, judging State competitions, giving private piano lessons and accompanying student musicians.

She and George traveled the world. They cruised Alaska, the Rhine, and the Danube, got lost in the Alhambra, watched a bullfight in Spain, and helicoptered into a volcano in Hawaii.

But they called Chestertown, NY home, and lived at Bonnie Belle Farm for the last twenty years. There Corrine could reunite with many of her cousins and friends in the Adirondack region. She relished whenever her family could be with her there, especially in the kitchen. She loved to play golf and was a member of Cronin’s Golf Resort in Warrensburg, NY. She played religiously up until illness forced her to stop just a few years ago. Unfortunately her disorder progressed relentlessly and quickly, forcing her to leave her beloved North Country and begin assisted living in Florida where Cheryl was able to be by her side consistently.

At the family's request there will be no calling hours.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30pm on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Argyle, NY 12809.

The burial will be conducted following the funeral service at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Argyle.

A full obituary will appear at a later date.
