Donald Edward Sanders, 83, formerly of Meadow Road in Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Monday June 25, 2012 at Pleasant Valley Nursing home.

Born on May 19, 1929 in Fort Miller, he was the son of the late Walter and Lena (Bristol) Sanders.

He grew up in Fort Miller and Lake George and graduated from Lake George School. Donald enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. He served his country proudly for 2 years.

Donald married Dorothy Burt in Whitehall. They spent many wonderful years together before her passing in 2002.

Donald worked for 31 years at General Electric in Waterford as a Chemical Engineer. He was instrumental in forming the IUE Local 380 Union, in which he served as president until his retirement.

He enjoyed traveling to Florida, Hawaii, and Arizona, which was his favorite. Donald loved being called Unkie by the kids in the neighborhood. He loved picnics, outings and spending time with his family, he always found a way to make the holiday’s special.

Besides his parents and wife, Donald is predeceased by his siblings, Kenneth Sanders, Elsie Cheney, Shirlee Christopher, Richard Sanders, Linden Sanders, Malcom Sanders, Elizabeth LaMore, Helene Grant, Evelyn Cipkowski and Ruth Doner.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Shelley Vaughn and husband David of Corinth and Donna Bombard of Glens Falls, six grandchildren, Michael Vaughn, Steven Vaughn and fiancé Corinnie Smith, Jennifer Vaughn and companion Robert Lane, Alana Vaughn, Amanda Bombard and Melissa Bombard, two great-grandchildren, Trinity and Brayden, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11am on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the funeral home with Regina Haag, Adirondack Friends Meeting, officiating.

Burial will follow at Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
