Doris M. Smith, 89, a longtime resident of Garfield Road, Eagle Mills, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home.
Born on October 21, 1934, in Argyle, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Arabella (Dennison) Ely.
For many years, Doris worked at Passonno Paint Corp. in Watervliet as an office manager.
On August 2, 1952, Doris married David Smith in Salem.
Doris enjoyed family, gardening, square dancing, day tripping and spending winters at her second home in Las Vegas, NV with Ernie VanGuilder.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was predeceased by her daughter, Linda; her son, Wayne; her siblings, Frances Pangmon, Paul Ely, Mary Morehouse, John Ely, Eleanor Ely, Joyce Rudd, Malcolm Ely, Wallace Ely and Walter Ely.
Left to cherish her memory include her son, David Smith and his wife, Evelyn of Fort Myers, FL; her daughter, Karen Sponable and her husband, James, of Salisbury, NC; her grandchildren, David J. Smith and his wife, Karen of Troy, Justin Smith and his wife, Jennifer of Fort Myers, FL, Kyle Sponable and his wife, Brittany of Salisbury, NC, Ami Brow and her husband, David of Denver, CO, Alysson Jakubowski and her husband, Jeff of Niskayuna; her sister, Joan McClenning and her husband, Robert of Granville; five great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
