Obituary for Dorothy Boyack

Dorothy C. Boyack, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Home of the Good Shepherd in Moreau.

Born May 25, 1942, in Cohoes she was the daughter of the late George and Harriett (Judson) Boyack.

Raised in Clifton Park on a farm, she went to a one room school home for 6 years with the same teacher every year. Dorothy then attended and graduated from Shenendehowa Central School in 1960. She grew up having 4-H be a huge part of her life, not only was she a member she also became a counselor. She went on to Morrisville agricultural and technical school graduating with a associate in food service administration. After that she went on to further her education at Castleton university where she received a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1966.

Dorothy lived in center White Creek NY for many years and traveled to Vermont to work at the Southwest Vermont Supervisory union School (Molly Stark) in Bennington Vermont, retiring in 1998 as a physical education teacher for 32 years. Eventually Dorothy moved to Gansevoort, NY until she came to the Home of the Good Shepherd in Moreau.

Over the years she has enjoyed traveling extensively to Europe, Panama, Alaska, Hawaii, and Russia.
She has made many beautiful craft items, which was one of her biggest passions putting on many craft shows in the area. The crafts included crocheting, plastic canvas, needle point, paper quilling, recycled tin cans made into furniture and angels, sewing that she learned in 4-H and home economics while attending Shenendehowa School.

Left to cherish her memory include her sister, Barbara B. Schaffer, and her husband John R. Sr.; niece, Sandra Savko and her children, Natasha and Grant DeNers and her husband Brian Savko; nephews, John R. Schaffer Jr. and his wife Amanda and their son Kaden, Russell MacNeal and Tanya and their children, Isabelle, and Rachel (Elliot Jenks) and their children Asher, Lilah.

A Celebration of life will be held at Pine Knolls Alliance Church 614 Gansevoort Rd, South Glens Falls, NY 12803 on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 4 pm with a reception to follow at the church.

Burial will be at Memory Gardens in Albany privately and at the convenience of the family.

The family wishes to thank Mattison Zuis RPA and Dr. John Sawyer of Hudson Headwaters for their care for many years as well as the Community Hospice and Home of the Good Shepherd staff.
