Obituary for Dorothy Mary "Dottie" Choppa (Lyons)

GLENS FALLS
Dorothy “Dottie” M. Choppa passed away at the Westmount Health Care facility on April 15, 2014.

Born on November 20, 1926, Dorothy was the daughter of the late William and Mabel (Hoag) Lyons. At the age of 3 she came to Glens Falls and was raised by her great aunt and uncle, John and Nellie Hackett, as well as their daughter, Helene Hackett.

She married Robert Choppa on August 12, 1972.

Dorothy graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls in 1945, and went on to work at various locations throughout her life, including Western Union, the Queensbury Hotel, Slim’s Market and Woodbury Lumber in Queensbury, from where she eventually retired after many years of service.

She was a communicant and active member of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls. When not working, her greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Choppa, who passed away in December 2004.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Ball; her son-in-law, Bruce Ball; as well as her many, many friends in and around Glens Falls.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Westmount Health facility, especially May Cochran for all her help and compassion. Also her caregivers and good friends, who helped Dottie stay at home as long as possible – Maggie, Cyndi, Sarah and Patsy.

Friends may call on the family between 4 and 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., So. Glens Falls, NY 12803. To leave online condolences or view her Book of Memories, please go to www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
