Obituary for Dorothy E. Lyons

Dorothy E. Lyons
GRANVILLE, SOUTH GLENS FALLS

Dorothy E. Lyons, 88, passed away peacefully at The Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, Granville, N.Y. Friday March 1, 2013

Born on June 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Laura (Brady) McMahon of Malone, N.Y. Dorothy graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy Malone, N.Y. in 1943. She was married to N. Stanley Lyons Jr. for 49 years, prior to his death in 1994. While raising her family was her priority in life, she always could find time to help others in need. She also served as Cub Scout Den Mother, 4-H Leader and she belonged to The Home Bureau. During Dorothy’s 22 years as Postmaster in North Bangor, N.Y, she took great pride in being chosen to serve people from around the world as Postmaster at the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, N.Y. When Dorothy and Stanley moved to Hudson Falls, she joined the Bereavement Committee at St. Mary-St. Paul’s Church and volunteered as a Guild Member at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Dorothy had a smile, which with her blue eyes, could light up any room. Her sense of humor and great gift of faith in doing God’s will, is what helped carry her through the many tragedies she endured throughout her life on Earth.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara in 1969, her sons, David in 1991 and Michael 1996, and also her brother, Philip McMahon.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Bogdan and husband Robert H. of Queensbury; one son, Nelson S. Lyons III and his wife Christine of Hudson Falls; Grandchildren Adam R. Bogdan (Kristen) of South Glens Falls, Jason Bogdan of Queensbury, Scott Lyons of Clifton Park, Michael (Gerri) Lyons of Queensbury, Jody (Raymond) DeLong of Ft. Edward, Desmond (Liann) Lyons of Ft. Edward, Dawn (Pete) Gosline of Fort Edward, Denise (Patrick) Sundin of Hudson Falls; Her sister, Eleanor Paye of Malone and several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

Our family gives thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at The Orchard Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre for their dedication towards Dorothy for the past years. Appreciation also extended to Dr. William Tedesco and Dr. Paul R. Filion for their concerned care prior to her entering The Orchard Nursing Home in 2007.
