Obituary for Edward Hiram Jones

Edward H. Jones, a resident of Washington Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Argyle, NY and formerly of Adams Center, NY, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 14th, 2023 with his family at his side.

Ed was born May 24, 1943 in Dundee, Scotland, the son of Donald Jones and Margaret O’Brien. He was raised in Carthage, NY by Lyle and Wilma Tripp. He graduated from Carthage high school in 1961 where he played football, a favorite pastime of his, in his senior year. Ed went on to study at Oswego State University.

He married Barbara J. Fuller on May 9, 1964. Together they had 3 children, Jeffrey D., Scott E., and Samantha L. The marriage later ended in divorce.

Ed worked for the paper mill in Carthage and AMF in Lowville, NY before going to work for Agway in 1965. He spent the rest of his working years as a self-employed heating and plumbing contractor. He was also employed by Olympic Apartments, Watertown, NY as the maintenance supervisor in the 90’s.

Ed was introduced to the love of his life, Nancy Adams, in 1993, thanks to his oldest and dearest friend, Ernie Waite. Ed and Nancy were together for 30 years.

Ed enjoyed football and was a loyal fan of the NY Giants and Syracuse Orange. He was a history buff and loved music and movies. He enjoyed birdwatching, working with his hands, and “puttering.” He and Nancy loved going out dancing together. He was known as the life of the party and was a helpful and considerate friend and neighbor. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He fought his last battle with dementia bravely and with strength and dignity.

Ed is survived by his companion of 30 years, Nancy Adams and her 2 daughters Barb and Linda, his children Jeff (Sharron), Scott (Krista), Samantha (George Gray), 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mitchell, and Michaela, 2 great grandchildren, and his lifelong friend, Ernie Waite (Gina). The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Washington Center for providing such excellent care to Ed for the last 16 months.

A celebration of life will be held in June 2023 at a place and time to be announced.
