Obituary

With a heavy heart , I lost my best friend, my soulmate, my person! Edward Peter Merlow Sr (Pete), 84, of Clearwater, Fl, formerly of Third St, Glens Falls, NY, passed away unexpectedly, at home, surrounded by his loving Wife and his fur babies Lily, Zoey, and Sophia by his side on May 4, 2020, into the loving arms of his daughter Joann Merlow, and his loving son Edward Peter Merlow Jr. Born in Granville, NY, he was the son of Franklin Peter and Margaret Bassette Merlow.

Pete was raised in middle Granville, NY by his loving grandparents Jeremiah and Helen (Nellie) Forn Bassette (Ma & Pa) as he called them.

Pete was a graduate of Granville High School. He retired from General Electric Co. in Hudson Falls / Fort Edward, NY, after 35 years of service and worked for the Hudson Falls Police Department. He served his country in the United States Air Force 802nd Air Division (SAC).

Pete was an avid amature radio operator, call sign WA2HXX , and he built his first radio at the age of 16. In 1967 he started the Carrier Net with W1KKD, and it is still going today. He loved electronics, the more the better. He was always the go to person, if anyone had trouble with anything he was there. He loved working on computers and helping his friends with theirs. He loved his Goldwing motorcycle, airplanes, camping trips to Maine and New Hampshire, amateur radio festivals, deep sea fishing with his grandsons Dylan and Marky, and his Grandsons loved spending the summers with their Poppy. Most of all he loved just being home, spending time with his wife and his fur babies, who brought so much joy to him.

Pete was predeceased by his father Peter Franklin Merlow, his mother Margaret Bassette Smith, his grandparents Jeremiah and Helen Forn Bassette, one sister Darla Jean Ballou, his loving daughter Joann Merlow, loving son Eddie Merlow, mother in law Margaret Duclos Baker, father in law Peter J. Burlett Jr, sister in law Joan C. McGarr, and brother in law William J Burlett.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Linda Burlett Merlow, daughters Tanya Liebl /Greg of Queensbury and Katherine Culver/Mark Humphreys Sr of Fort Edward, who loved him unconditionally. Siblings, Joseph Merlow of South Glens Falls, NY, Cecelia Lamphear /Gary, Carlin McDonald / Harry, Peter Michael Merlow / Phyllis of Queensbury, NY, and sister in law Jane Barber/Burton of Queensbury NY. Grandchildren Sydney and Griffin Liebl of Queensbury, NY, Elizabeth Simpson of Queensbury, NY, Mariah Simpson of Glens Falls, NY, Dylan Culver and Mark Anthony Humphreys Jr of Fort Edward, NY, and great grandchildren Edward and Jayden Simpson of Glens Falls, NY, and Jayde Gale of Queensbury, NY.

Pete was a good provider and Father who was proud of and loved all of his children, sadly the feelings were not returned by some.

I am forever lost without you, 51 years of love, and I so miss hearing ma. You gave me the best of all, love and always made me feel safe, secure and always knew you would never ever let anything happen to me. You were a very strong man with an oh so gentle and loving side.Forever my love!

Pete was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of New York Herschel-Argyle Lodge no.0508, and Granville Lodge no.55.

I would like to thank John Affinito and John Graham for the long lasting friendships they had with Pete, he always looked forward to your phone calls and truly cherished your friendship.

There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the National Cremation Society of Clearwater, Fl.

Donations in his memory may be made to Pinellas County Animal Welfare Trust Fund. 12450 Ulmerton Rd. Largo, Fl 33774

So sorry to hear of Pete’s passing. I couldn’t open the video that first announced this sad news and reminisced how lost my dad and I were with computers until Pete would arrive to correct the situation and tune up our technology skills. We appreciated all his help and friendship and will miss him dearly. RIP Peter.
