Obituary for Edward F. Pratt

Edward F. Pratt
SOUTH GLENS FALLS -

Edward F. Pratt passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 8, 2010. He was born on October 5, 1927, the son of the late Margaret (Tressman) and James Pratt and spent his entire life in the South Glens Falls area.

On February 2, 1952, Ed married Ruth Wilsie in St. John the Baptist Church in Chestertown. Ed and Ruth spent the next 58 years of their lives together, raising a large family, caring for each other, and endlessly sharing their love for one another.

Ed was very proud of his employment with the New York State Police. He served for 25 years as a state trooper and retired with the rank of Zone Sergeant in the former South Glens Falls barracks. Following his retirement, Ed worked for the First National Bank in the Consumer Loan Department. He was also elected to the position of South Glens Falls Village Justice, a job he took very seriously and for which he was uniquely qualified.

Ed was a deeply religious man and faithful to his church. He was a communicant of St. Michaels Church in South Glens Falls for many years.

Ed was a loving and devoted family man. He took his greatest pleasures in focusing his time and attention toward his children, 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was most happy when surrounded by family and friends.

Ed also was an avid Yankees and Giants fan; loved to do crossword puzzles; and enjoyed playing cards. He was a member of American Legion Post 553, the Association of Retired NYS Troopers, and BPOE Elks Lodge 81 in Queensbury. He also served with the Navy onboard the U.S.S. Oregon City during World War II, and saw military action overseas.

In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Hall, a sister, Marguerite Ellers, and two brothers, William Pratt and Joseph Pratt.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Ed is survived by a large family in and around the South Glens Falls areas, including his two sons, Michael E. Pratt and Timothy P. Pratt; his four daughters, Kathleen Bourdeau and her husband Joseph, Maureen Ruth Leggett and her husband Michael, Laurie LaFountain and her husband David, and Mary Belair and her husband Joe; two son-in-laws, Terry Hall and Paul Flood, and his wife Linda; a brother, George Washington Pratt of Virginia Beach; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on the family on Monday, April 12, 2010 between 4 and 7pm at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. Online condolences may be posted at kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls, NY at 10am on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 with the Reverend Anthony Childs, pastor, officiating.

Burial will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville following the funeral mass.

The family suggest donations in Ed’s memory be made to Moreau Emergency Squad, Inc. 1583 State Route 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828 or to a charity of one’s choice.
