Obituary for Eilleen Sherman (Bain)

GANSEVOORT

Eilleen C. (Bain) Sherman, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2014 at The Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Queensbury.

Born on February 9, 1922 at the Bain family farm in South Argyle, Eilleen was a twin daughter of the late Roscoe and Janie (Washburn) Bain.

Eilleen graduated from Argyle Central School in 1939. On October 22, 1942, she married William (Bill) Abram Sherman in Argyle.

Eilleen took her career as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother very seriously and was always dedicated, devoted, and hard-working. She never wished to change her life in any way. Just as Bill did, Eilleen took great pride in maintaining their riverside garden. They enjoyed sharing the fruits of their labor with many family members, friends, and neighbors over the years.

Believing in her Heavenly Father, faith in God and her religion were of great importance to Eilleen throughout her life. She taught Sunday school at Gansevoort reformed Church and Gansevoort United Methodist Church for many years, and also served as superintendent. She was a current member, and one of the oldest attending members of the Bacon Hill Reformed Church, and a former member of the South Argyle United Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls (where she taught Bible school for 15 years) and the Old Saratoga Reformed Church (where she also taught Sunday school).

On June 29, 2010, she lost her best friend and love of her life, when Bill, her husband of over 67 years died. She has now been reunited with her special Valentine and is happy once more. Thanks Be To God!

In addition to her parents and her husband, Eilleen was predeceased by her infant son, Donald William Sherman; her baby granddaughter Kristy Jean Sherman; her sister Doris Bain Rogers; her sister-in-law Helen Walsh Bain; and her brothers-in-law Jared F. Thomas, Stanley Rogers, Clifford (Chip) McKernon, and Addison Gillis.

Left to cherish her memory are her two loving sons, Merrill A. Sherman and his wife Carile (Pearsall) of Gansevoort, and Gary L. Sherman and his wife Dorothy (McWhorter) of Schuylerville. She will be sadly missed by her 5 loving grandchildren; Robert Sherman of Wallingford, CT, Rachel Sherman Barnes and her husband Matthew of Chatham, MA, Audra Sherman Cook and her husband Edson of Gansevoort, Jason Sherman of Orange, MA, and Laura Sherman Miller and her fiancé Scott Fivel of Gansevoort, a special great-granddaughter Sage Kathleen Barnes of MA, and a special great grandson Brady William Cook of Gansevoort. The family is eternally grateful for the time she was given to spend with them during their young lives. Eilleen is also survived by her twin sister, Pauline Shaw of Saratoga Springs, her sisters Marion Gillis of Hudson Falls and Anna McKernon of Argyle, her brother Roscoe James (Rock) Bain and his wife Mary Elizabeth (Bette) of Argyle, and her sister-in-law Eleanor Thomas of Schuylerville. Several cousins and many nieces, nephews and friends are still living. The family pets, Trinket, Greta, and Layla will dearly miss her as well.

Friends may call from 4-7pm on Monday, February 17, 2014 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828. To leave online condolences or to view Eilleen’s Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Bacon Hill Reformed Church, 560 Route 32 North, Schuylerville, NY with Rev. Janet M. Vincent, pastor officiating.
