Obituary for Eleanor Louise Robertson (Mahaffy)
Greenwich
Eleanor Robertson, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Washington Center in Argyle.
Born in Argyle on January 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Myrtle (Wever) Mahaffy.
Eleanor was a graduate of Argyle Central School class of 1942.
On May 6, 1950, she married John Alexander Robertson at the United Presbyterian Church in North Argyle. The spent 14 years together before John passed due to a tractor accident.
Eleanor worked for Glens Falls Insurance for a short time, and worked for over 30 years at Pleasant Valley Infirmary as a cook. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Pleasant Valley Infirmary and the Greenwich Free Library. Eleanor also worked many years on the family farm, John Robertson and Sons.
She enjoyed going to the fair to watch the tractor pulls, gardening in which she gave most of her vegetables away, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play their various sports.
Besides her parents and husband, Eleanor was predeceased by a son, Neil Robertson in 1988, and a brother, Orley Mahaffy.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Timothy Robertson and friend Chuck of Palatine Bridge, Joann Darfler and husband John and Craig Robertson and wife Fran both of Greenwich, daughter in-law, Kathy Murphy and husband Dick, grandchildren, Kylee Ryan and husband Tom, Krissy Stewart and husband Ed, Joby Darfler, Kory Darfler, Laine Bennett and husband Corey, Courtney Mitchell and husband Steve, and Ryan Robertson, great-grandchildren, Gavon, Drake, Silver, Anna, J.T., Alivia, Steven, Cameron, and Emily, sister, Ruth Hawkins of Ballston Spa.
Per Eleanor’s request, there will be no calling hours.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to Cossayuna Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., 21 Bunker Hill Road, Cossayuna, NY 12823.
The family would like to thank her special friends from the Washington Center, Shirley, Carol, and Alice and the staff at Washington Center for the wonderful care they gave Eleanor.
